Why install a vertical shaft impact sand maker after a multi-cylinder hydraulic cone crusher?

In sand and aggregate production lines, multi-cylinder hydraulic cone crushers are commonly used for secondary and fine crushing. They are especially suitable for medium and high hardness, highly abrasive materials such as granite, basalt and iron ore. Many people wonder: the cone crusher can already crush stones into fine particles, so why add a sand maker downstream? In fact, the sand maker is not simply placed after the cone crusher. It normally works together with vibrating screens and return material systems to form a closed-circuit production process. The typical flow is: multi-cylinder cone crusher → vibrating screen classification → qualified materials go to the next process → oversize materials feed into the sand maker → re-screening.
So why is a sand maker required? There are four main reasons:
1. Further improve finished particle shape. Through high-speed impact and inter-particle collision, the sand maker can carry out extra crushing and shaping to optimize irregular particles.
2. Further reduce oversized materials and raise the effective utilization rate and sand yield of raw materials.
3. Optimize the gradation of finished products, making the particle size distribution of final products better meet production requirements.
4. Improve the quality of manufactured sand by re-crushing and shaping return materials of suitable particle size.
The multi-cylinder cone crusher and sand maker have different process functions: the multi-cylinder cone crusher handles secondary and fine crushing, the vibrating screen performs classification, and the sand maker re-crushes and shapes qualified return materials. This closed-circuit process of "crushing + screening + material return + shaping" enables better control over finished particle size and shape, and improves the stability of manufactured sand production.
